Infocious takes a variety of factors into account for ranking
the results returned to our users.
Such factors include the frequency of the query keywords in the
pages, whether the keywords appear in the title of the pages,
the relative font sizes of the keywords compared to the rest
of the document, etc.
Infocious also uses link-based properties of the Web pages
in order to rank the pages. Pages that are highly linked
are (in most cases) considered more important than pages
with fewer incoming links.
In addition to the above, we leverage our linguistic analysis technology
to return pages of greater quality to the users. More
specifically, we incorporate the information that our
linguistic analysis algorithms are generating into
our ranking algorithm. At a high level, if a page
is composed of well-written textual content, it will
be promoted, while the opposite will happen for a page
with poor textual content. Of course, our algorithms take
into account that some pages contain only Flash, PDF files, images, etc.
Infocious recognizes that a successfull search engine
goes hand-in-hand with webmasters providing qualitative
content on the Web.
However, since the ranking that Infocious uses is completely
automated, we cannot guarantee any specific (or good) ranking
for your site. In addition, our index evolves along with the Web
and as such your rankings may change from time to time.
Here are some guidelines that you may want to follow in
order to create content of good quality in the Web and make
it easier for Infocious (and other search engines) to index your site:
- Use well-formed HTML within the pages of your site. Our crawlers and
indexers parse the downloaded pages to find more links and index keywords
for your site. Although we make every effort to make our algorithms as
robust as possible, well-formed HTML will help our system not to miss any
important keywords and/or links from your site (due to, for example, malformed
tags).
-
Use well-written text within your pages. Make sure that the topic discussed
on your page is clear and well-presented.
Our algorithms perform linguistic
analysis on the Web pages to identify the texts that answer the user's
query in the most clear way.
- Consider adding a site-map to your site. This will help our crawler
to find and index all of your pages.
-
Consider submitting your site's URL to our system so that we can schedule
your site for crawling. You can submit your site's URL by using this
form.
-
Please consider using a reasonable number of outgoing links from every page.
A page with 2 million outgoing links is not useful to any user.
- Make sure that you allow our crawler to index your site. This can be
done through the robots.txt file. If you have questions regarding our
crawler you can visit our crawler page
for more information.
